IIRC it may also give you slightly better armor. My imported save gave me the Aerondight as a starting silver sword which isn't that great in Witcher 2 (it just saves you from having to craft a silver sword early on in Chapter 1). Make sure you put the save in the Documents/Witcher 2/gamesaves folder and you should be good to go. Importing a save is nice, but it's not that important.
